High St. Sebastopol 95472 1101 College Ave., Santa Rosa 95404 (707) 829-1053 Fee scale: $80-$140 DESCRIPTION OF CLINICAL PRACTICE The people who work with me are adults and older teenagers, about half of whom come as couples, all ages and sexual orientations. Their individual problems range from anxiety &/or depression, life transitions such as addiction recovery, divorce, aging, sickness, bereavement, trauma, family conflict, and loss of intimacy in relationships. My practice has evolved over 30 years becoming more eclectic and practical, with the primary purpose, always, to alleviate suffering. VIPASSANA/MEDITATION BACKGROUND For 20 years my mindfulness training was in Gurdjieff work. However, since 1994 I have been a practicing Buddhist with a daily meditation practice and many retreats, at least 1 (min10 day) retreat per year. My primary teachers are in the Ajahn Chah tradition, Ajahns Amaro and Sumedho, as well as teachers at both IMS and Spirit Rock. RELEVANT CLINICAL TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE In 1971, I completed a PhD at the Univ. of AZ, Tucson with a primary focus in clinical behaviorism. I continued my training as staff psychologist in mental hospitals (Washington D.C.) and teaching on the East coast, shifting to a psychodynamic emphasis. In 1974 I moved to Berkeley to teach at JFK, pursue spiritual work and obtain my California license. Since 1978, I have been in private practice in Sebastopol and Santa Rosa, using an amalgam of various approaches and my own spiritual practice and life experiences. |
