DESCRIPTION OF CLINICAL PRACTICE
I practice psychotherapy with adolescents, adults, families, couples, and groups. I like to work with people who are in life transition phases, who often come in manifesting depression, anxiety, co-dependency issues, addiction or alcohol use/abuse, ACA issues, post-traumatic stress. My theoretical approach is integrative, incorporating psychodynamic, Jungian/archetypal, transpersonal, existential, family systems, and self-psychology perspectives. I work from a Buddhist and existential stance. I work to ally myself with the innate healing power of the psyche, bringing compassion and understanding of impermanence to the work. I focus on empowerment, release from obstacles to being fully present, and invite creativity and exploring wider options. This may entail exploring unconscious process and motivations, using dreamwork, meditation, gestalt, guided imagery, narrative, bodywork, EMDR and other modalities as appropriate. I have trained in and employ long-term depth and brief therapy modalities.

VIPASSANA/MEDITATION BACKGROUND
I have been practicing Buddhist meditation for over 35 years. I have been ordained as a monk and priest-trainee in the Zen tradition, and a monk in the Theravadin tradition. I have spent several years in monastic practicing communities. I have been practicing vipassana in many retreat formats - 3 month retreats, 10 day retreats, weekends, etc. I have practiced and studied in the vipassana and Tibetan traditions in the USA and India/Nepal. I hold a black belt in the art of Aikido, and title of Sifu in the art of T'ai Chi Ch'uan, and am a teacher in both traditions. I am also a student of Kyudo (Zen Archery).
