I also offer art therapy workshops, trainings, and consultations on specific topics. With over ten years experience as a therapist, I have come to respect more and more the truth and power of the imagination to light the path to healing, whether one is struggling with the effects of childhood or recent trauma, unresolved grief and loss, anxiety, depression, addiction, intimate relationship issues or transitions. Sometimes in our efforts to avoid suffering we lose touch with some of our more vulnerable feelings, eventually becoming emotionally numb. Words alone often fail us in expressing deeply held emotional pain or trauma. Through the mindful exploration of personal imagery and metaphor in the safety of the therapeutic relationship, what needs to be expressed comes forth. Emotional knots are loosened, feeling become unstuck, the healing process begins. Interweaving talk therapy, art therapy, EMDR, guided imagery and other creative processes, I assist in the identification and transformation of undesirable habits, negative beliefs, and blocked feelings. VIPASSANA/MEDITATION BACKGROUND I began vipassana meditation practice in 1974 and have continued with my sitting practice to the present. I have participated in many eight-day retreats led by teachers at Spirit Rock and participate in a weekly sangha led by a Spirit Rock teacher. In addition I practice yoga in the Iyengar tradition. My meditation practice is the spiritual foundation of my clinical work. RELEVANT TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE I hold an MA from Notre Dame University de Namur in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialty in Art Therapy, where I was trained in family systems approach. I have post-licensure training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy from the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis North. I am a certified EMDR practitioner as well as a certified Art Therapist, and have over twenty years experience as a professional studio artist including extensive teaching experience with a graduate degree in Art from San Francisco State University. |
