My work with children helps them express themselves through imagery in art and play to catalyze healing and inner transformation. I also emphasize the importance of the therapeutic relationship. My work with children includes collateral work with their parents. I also offer social skills groups for children who are challenged in this area. Over my years of meditation practice and therapy training, I understand human experience as a single spectrum which spans physical, psychological and spiritual dimensions. In adult psychotherapy, I meet the client wherever they are along that spectrum and to assist them to deepen their exploration and insight. My work draws on both the Jungian approach and the tradition of Nondual Therapy. I utilize various approaches including mindfulness, expressive arts, sandplay, dream work, and active imagination. More recently I have added Yoga Nidra or Integrative Restoration (iRest) to my therapy sessions. It emphasizes working with opposites within the body and mind, and is an effective way to approach trauma and entrenched psychological patterns. It approaches all facets of our experience as potential doorways to the nondual. I am interested in subtle energy experience as a vehicle for both healing and insight (see below), I am also drawn to the emerging field of Energy Psychology. For further information, see my web site. VIPASSANA/MEDITATION BACKGROUND I have been a Buddhist practitioner for over 35 years. I have completed numerous three month retreats and many shorter retreats. I spent 3 years as monk in Thailand. I also have extensive experience in the Rinzai Zen tradition and both the Dzogchen and Mahamudra traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. I am trained as a practitioner and master teacher of Reiki Jin Kei Do, a Buddhist hands-on healing and subtle energy practice lineage. I have studied with Punja-ji in India. I am currently learning the Diamond Logos approach with Lama Palden. My special area of interest is the teaching of dependent origination as it applies to our daily experience and its relationship to both deep samadhi and deep insight. This interest informs my approach to psychotherapy. RELEVANT CLINICAL TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE My training was with the Institute for Imaginal Studies in Petaluma, which has a strong neo-Jungian flavor. My dissertation focuses on the role of subtle energy patterns/images in the creation of the apparent split in our ordinary experience into the duality of knowing subject in relation to known objects. My internship training at CTI has a special emphasis on sandplay therapy and also includes play and art therapy. I have worked as an elementary school counselor at two Petaluma area grade schools. I have completed the MBSR training with Jon Kabat-Zinn. I am a founder and current Board member of the Institute for Spirituality and Psychology. |
