DESCRIPTION OF CLINICAL PRACTICE
General psychotherapy with individual adults. I work to increase clients' awareness, acceptance, and expression of themselves, and their ability to make healthy decisions and trust themselves. The sessions develop their own meditative energy when the client and I direct careful attention to whatever is present in our experience. We use talking and body psychotherapy, sometimes including touch and movement. I am guided by intuition and a sense of balance, and by Rogerian, existential, Jungian, Gestalt, and transpersonal theories.

VIPASSANA/MEDITATION BACKGROUND
Vipassana meditator since 1975; served as cook on staff at IMS, Barre for one year (1977); attended two 3-month retreats (1975 and 1976), plus many 6 to 30 day retreats. Most recently (2006) spent 21 days at the Forest Refuge in Barre.

Zen and Dzogchen have also influenced my practice, and I spent several years in Christian practice at Catholic monasteries. Choiceless awareness remains my basic daily practice. Since 1990 I have taught meditation and led sitting groups and weekend retreats. In 1993 I completed a professional training with Jon Kabat-Zinn, and I have taught mindfulness at Kaiser-Permanente since 1995. Produced 3 mindfulness meditation CDs.

RELEVANT CLINICAL TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
M.A. in Counseling Psychology from California Institute of Integral Studies, 1986. One year internship at Napa County Human Services; four years counseling at a residential treatment program for adults in crisis, an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization.

Training and experience in massage and bodywork since 1982. Completed 3-year Lomi Somatics training program in 2001. My best training has been my own personal therapy as a client.
