I work with adults and couples. Often my patients are spiritual practitioners in Buddhist , Sufi, Jewish, Christian, Hindu and Sikh traditions. In therapy, we work on traditional issues of: grief, loss, codependency, abandonment, narcissism, childhood trauma, reality testing ability, intimacy, isolation, relating and relationship, authenticity, trust, finding voice, blocked creativity, shame, perfectionism, addictions, ADD, and loving, accepting and forgiving oneself and others. Depth psychotherapy is a redemptive process that gives personal meaning to our suffering and supports retrieval of disowned parts of ourselves. Its strategy and goal is to make the unconscious conscious on the personal and impersonal/imaginal levels of the mind and the heart. When individually and collectively we avoid owning our personal pain and history -- not take up the cross, so to speak -- others in our life (often our children and partners), others we do not know, other life forms and the planet suffer. VIPASSANA/MEDITATION BACKGROUND I have been a spiritual practitioner for some forty-five years, studying with: Shunryu Suzuki Roshi for three years in the mid-Sixties; H.E. Kirpal Singh and his successor H.E. Darshan Singh, Guru for some twenty years; Bawa Muaiyaddeen; Spirit Rock teachers; and the Ven.Tsoknyi Rinpoche III from whom I received Pointing Out Instructions. Since the early Nineties, my main spiritual practice is Ati Yoga/Rigpa. RELEVANT CLINICAL TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE My clinical training is in somatic (mind/body/energy) perinatal, Gestalt, developmental/object relations, and Jungian analytic psychologies. Once traditional, my training includes being an analysand for some 40 plus years. For two years, in the Nineties, I supervised interns at the Lomi Clinic in Santa Rosa and also led a support group for the staff of Face to Face in Guerneville. In early 2000, I co-led a non-dual meditation group in Sebastopol for three years. In Spring of 2010, I teach a CEU class at Sonoma State entitled "Psyche and Sprit: Psychotherapy and Spiritual Practice". In Fall of 2010, I will offer a weekly meditation open to and limited to those in or who have done psychotherapy. |
