DESCRIPTION OF CLINICAL PRACTICE
I work with individuals and couples from a variety of therapeutic perspectives. Particular areas of interest and experience include working with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, substance abuse, spiritual issues, identity issues, and working with LGBT people.

Generally speaking, I believe that most problems follow from holding on to outdated ways that one understands oneself and relates to others. My goal is to help clients gain a clearer sense of who they truly are so that they can make better choices and undertake more skillful actions in the present moment.

I bring to the therapeutic relationship compassion, insight, a sense of humor, and most importantly, a willingness to support and stick with clients as they work to achieve their goals for therapy. I am very interested in working with clients to incorporate their mindfulness practice into their daily life and their work in therapy.

VIPASSANA/MEDITATION BACKGROUND
My meditation background includes a regular vipassana sitting practice and a number of retreats from five to 27 days. I am about to complete the two-year Dedicated Practitioners Program at Spirit Rock. I also attend a weekly sangha in San Francisco taught by a Spirit Rock teacher.

RELEVANT CLINICAL TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
I have a Masters Degree in Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from San Francisco State University. I have been a therapist in private practice for nine years. I've been trained to teach Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) by Bob Stahl, Ph.D., and currently am co-teaching an MBSR class with him in San Jose. Prior to becoming a therapist, I was an attorney.
