DESCRIPTION OF CLINICAL PRACTICE
I work with individuals and couples using principles of Buddhist Psychology, which include clarity, compassion and wisdom. My work with individuals focuses on their challenges in the areas of relationships and co-dependency, life transitions, depression and anxiety. I specialize in working with clients interested in exploring self-identity and spiritual growth. Working with couples, I hold the relationship in the context of a shared spiritual journey.
Many of the people I work with have found that the peace they experience in their spiritual practice is lacking in their daily lives. It is often true that underlying beliefs and old wounds can hold us back from a full and satisfying life. Becoming mindful and bringing awareness to old patterns and beliefs can be the beginning of releasing and transforming them. This often leads to a richer, more meaningful and happier life.
My style is warm, interactive and engaging. My goal is to be open, present and connected to you. Our work will be collaborative, and you will have the full attention of a mature, mindful and experienced therapist.
VIPASSANA/MEDITATION BACKGROUND
I have been practicing Buddhist meditation for over twenty years and have attended Spirit Rock retreats since 1998. Sitting a week-long silent retreat annually is an important part of my practice. For ten years I have been a member of a Sangha facilitated by Ken Bradford. I have experience in Vipassana, Dzogchen and Mahamudra practices. I have attended many Vipassana retreats with our esteemed Spirit Rock teachers as well as Nature of Mind retreats with Mingyur Rinpoche and Choegon Rinpoche. I look forward to sitting with Tsoknyi Rinpoche this April at Mt. Madonna.
RELEVANT CLINICAL TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
I received a Masters degree in Transpersonal Counseling from John F. Kennedy University in 2000. My Master’s thesis was written on Buddhist Psychology and delved deeply into the works of John Welwood and David Brazier (Zen Therapy). I have completed training in Hakomi Therapy. I also have training in the Emotional Freedom Technique and Non-Violent Communication.
