DESCRIPTION OF CLINICAL PRACTICE
I am interested in helping others discover greater freedom and spontaneity in their lives, and I believe that therapy and mindfulness can work together to make that possible.
My 25 years in private practice has been a reflection of my deepening interest in the marriage of psychotherapy and mindfulness meditation. My training was primarily in psychodynamic theory, but over the years I have been incorporating cognitive behavioral perspectives into my work when needed. I also find that clients can often benefit from learning simple meditation and breathing practices to help them over painful or anxious moments, both in therapy and outside. My attention and presence in the therapy relationship is informed by my commitment as a meditator and practitioner of mindfulness.
VIPASSANA/MEDITATION BACKGROUND
I came to meditation more than 20 years ago, but it has been in the last 11 years that I have maintained an ever-deepening commitment to daily vipassana practice. I also have a strong yoga practice. I trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction with Jon Kabat-Zinn and others. I am nurtured by at least one 7 -10-day meditation retreat a year.
