DESCRIPTION OF CLINICAL PRACTICE
Mindfulness and meditative awareness are the bedrock of my work as a psychotherapist. Mindfulness allows us deeper access into the core belief systems that autopilot our lives. Mindfulness and meditative awareness, when skillfully woven into therapeutic work, build the capacity to make new choices at these deeper levels. I work with individuals, couples, and families. I use the Hakomi Method, a mindfulness-based therapeutic modality, to help clients find paths through their wounded patterns and into new ways of experiencing life. I use Peter Levine's Somatic Experiencing method to resolve trauma stored in the body. This method uses mindfulness to tune into the body's own natural rhythms, develop better self- regulation skills, release traumatic activation, and find a more gratifying baseline inside oneself. Benefits of this work include more fulfilling relationships, a greater sense of life direction, and, for people on the spiritual path, a capacity to go deeper in their meditation and spiritual practices. Re-attuning to who we fundamentally are--this is the essential goal of my work!
VIPASSANA/MEDITATION BACKGROUND
I have been practicing Vipassana meditation since 1988. I have sat well over a dozen 9-10 day retreats and several shorter ones. For 10 years I taught meditation classes in the Spirit Rock Teen Program.
